We met with multiple builders, but Cliff Pender (Solstice Builders) demonstrated that he understood the complexity of our house as well as the quality that we expected. In particular, our roof was so complex that it had to be designed while it was being built. Cliff stood on sight with us for numerous hours working out every detail. Although our roof was the most obvious challenge, we had many other difficult requests such as geothermal heat and air (on a small historic district sized lot), a house with almost no 90-degree angles, a live oak inches from the house that could not be damaged, and a gym over a garage that required structural engineering to handle thousands of pounds over a very long span (to name a few). We also required that telephone poles be removed and electric lines be buried. Cliff’s reputation and connections around town were invaluable when dealing with the city and Brunswick Electric to make this happen.
